The Australian Jesuits' recently-launched Gonzaga Network is a social responsibility program aimed at informing and involving students and alumni from Jesuit and Ignatian schools, as well as teachers, parents and other relevant people, in the province's social ministries.

The Director of Religious Formation at St Ignatius' College Riverview, Jennie Hickey, says that the works of various ministries will be incorporated in curriculum at increasingly deeper levels as students progress through school.

'Therefore when they leave they will be well-informed about the different aspects of the social ministries', she explains.

Immersion programs for alumni, teachers and other interested people will also be offered by the network, says the Province Delegate for Social Ministries, Fr Peter Hosking SJ. 'We know that those contacts with people from other cultures are incredibly formative, and then help [those undertaking immersion programs] engage with people into the future.'

Fr Hosking says that the Gonzaga Network will have many applications, originating in the schoolroom but moving well beyond it.

'We're very conscious that at the schools we have a whole community of relationships [with people who], as a result of being informed by their Ignatian spirituality, will have a sense of social responsibility and effective engagement in the world to make it a better place.'
